Washington 20-29 Kansas City: Chiefs are NFL’s only unbeaten team after Redskins win

The Kansas City Chiefs (4-0) remained the NFL’s only unbeaten team, as rookie kicker Harrison Butker nailed a field goal with eight seconds remaining to break a tie with, and beat, the Washington Redskins (2-2) on Monday Night Football.
Butker, making his NFL debut, connected on a 43-yard field goal before linebacker Justin Houston added some further gloss to the 29-20 victory by returning a fumble for a 13-yard touchdown on the last play of the game.
Washington’s kicker Dustin Hopkins had tied the game up by making a 40-yard field goal with 47 seconds remaining, but Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith then drove his team 50 yards in six plays for the winning score.
Earlier, the Redskins had powered into a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, with QB Kirk Cousins connecting with Terrelle Pryor for a 44-yard touchdown on the Washington’s first drive, while Hopkins hit a 19-yard field goal on their second possession.
But, Kansas City came back into the game and, though they trailed at half-time, touchdowns either side of the break – Smith picking out tight end Travis Kelce from 17 yards and then running in from a yard out himself – saw the home side edge out in front.
The Redskins needed fewer than two minutes to answer: Cousins’ 69-yard pass to tight end Vernon Davis setting up a short throw to Ryan Grant for a touchdown and a 17-14 lead.
The kickers took over from there on out until the Redskins, with one last chance to win the game on the final play, fumbled on a quick succession of laterals – Houston recovered the loose ball to waltz in for a score.
Kansas City rookie running back sensation Kareem Hunt had another strong night, racking up 101 yards off 21 carries, while Kelce hauled in 111 and a TD off seven receptions.
Before the game, flags flew at half-staff and there was a moment of silence before the game for victims of the Las Vegas shooting. The Redskins then locked arms for the national anthem, while everyone on the Chiefs side stood with the exception of cornerback Marcus Peters and linebacker Ukeme Eligwe.
