VOTE: Who should be Man of Steel: Luke Gale, Albert Kelly or Zak Hardaker?

The 2017 Man of Steel will be crowned on Tuesday night, but who do you think deserves the accolade? Luke Gale, Zak Hardaker or Albert Kelly.

The Steve Prescott Award will be presented on Tuesday night at the annual Man of Steel dinner in Manchester, but who is your deserved winner? Vote for yours below!

As League Leaders’ Shield winners and Grand finalists, Castleford are well represented in the form of Gale and Hardaker, while Australian Kelly is also rewarded after a superb debut campaign for Hull FC.

Luke Gale

Cas scrum-half Gale has been in the form of his career this season and been absolutely instrumental to their success.

The 29-year-old has scored over 300 points for the Tigers, been the key creative cog and has shown immense nerve, particularly from the tee.

No more was that in evidence than in Castleford’s dramatic last-gasp semi-final victory over St Helens at the Mend-A-Hose-Jungle last week.

Just 20 days previously, Gale had been in hospital having had his appendix taken out, yet when nobody expected him to play he fronted up and gave the performance of the season.

An early second-half try to stem Saints’ pressure, a penalty after the hooter to save the Tigers’ season and a golden point drop-goal to get them into the Grand Final. Does it get any better than that?

Even his team-mate and fellow nominee Hardaker said this week he believes Gale should be named Man of Steel.

Zak Hardaker

In saying that though, the Cas full-back has been near unplayable himself at times this season.

Hardaker signed from Leeds on loan at the beginning of the 2017 campaign, but having been a part of a Cas backline which scored 170 points in their first four games, he was quickly snapped up permanently.

His turn of pace and step are devastating and the 25-year-old has frequently scored magnificent solo tries this year, while he is also in the top 10 for try assists.

Hardaker won the Man of Steel award in 2015 and it’s arguable that his form this year has been even better.

Should he win it again, the Cas back would join an elite list of just three other men to win the Man of Steel award more than once after Ellery Hanley, Paul Sculthorpe and Andy Farrell.

Albert Kelly

Having spent two seasons with Hull KR, Kelly moved to Hull FC at the start of the season and has consistently impressed with his positive play and robust defensive and attacking work.

The 26-year-old halfback picked up four gongs at the recent Hull FC Club Player of the Year awards ceremony, and has comfortably settled into his role at the Black and Whites.

Kelly finished the year as the club’s top try scorer and his link up with the classy Marc Sneyd saw Hull win a second consecutive Challenge Cup and finish third in the league table.

They lost out to the Rhinos in a tight semi-final clash and though Kelly may be an outside bet for the award, he has enjoyed a tremendous year regardless.
