Teenager stabbed to death in broad daylight in Birmingham

A 17-year-old boy has become the third teenager in a fortnight to be stabbed to death in Birmingham.
Police have launched a murder investigation after the victim was attacked in broad daylight in Bordesley Green and pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2pm.
He was found seriously injured in Norwood Road and efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
It comes five days after Abdullah Muhammad, 16, was fatally wounded near a park in Small Heath.
A week before that, 16-year-old Sidali Mohamed died in hospital after being stabbed outside Joseph Chamberlain College in Highgate.
Home Secretary Sajid Javid has said he is “very concerned” about knife crime in the West Midlands.
It rose 72% rise in the region between April 2013 and the year ending March 2018, according to analysis by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Seven confirmed murder investigations have been launched by West Midlands Police so far in 2019.
Analysis by BirminghamLive found there were 58 homicides in the city last year, compared with 128 in London.
West Midlands Police said in a statement that no arrests have been made yet in relation to the latest killing and the scene remains sealed off.
They added they would be using increased powers to stop and search people following the attack.
Dudley MP Ian Austin has called for an urgent meeting with the home secretary.
Nazir Afzal, the prosecutor who oversaw the Rochdale child sex abuse scandal, said the victim was one of his relatives.
He tweeted: “Sadly, my sister-in-laws nephew, 18, was stabbed to death today in Birmingham.”
The former prosecutor asked if anyone was “paying attention” to the murder rate in the city and claimed it was more dangerous than London proportionately.
He added: “Where’s the outrage? Why do our children have to die?”
