Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton ‘denied entry to US over drugs’

Written by on 30/10/2017

Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton was denied entry into the US after officers reportedly found trace amounts of cocaine in his luggage.

The British actor was turned away and deported back to London after the discovery was made when he arrived in Los Angeles last week, a law enforcement official told Associated Press.

The official was speaking on condition of anonymity.

He said a sniffer dog came across a small amount of cocaine when the 23-year-old arrived at Los Angeles International Airport last Saturday.

Heaton, who plays Jonathan Byers in the supernatural drama series, was not arrested or charged but was instead sent back to the UK.

The actor, from Yorkshire, missed the Los Angeles premiere and launch party for his hugely popular Netflix show’s second series as a result.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said it kept the "highest standards of security" at airports.

A spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter: "Foreign nationals may be inadmissible due to the commission of a crime involving drug possession.

"CBP officers treat all international travellers with integrity, respect and professionalism while keeping the highest standards of security."

Heaton rose to fame after previously starring in episodes of DCI Banks and Casualty before landing his latest role playing the son of Joyce, played by Winona Ryder.

A news agency request for a comment from Heaton’s representatives was not immediately returned.
