Natalie Portman has returned to guest host Saturday Night Live for the first time in 12 years, making her much-anticipated rap comeback.

“So Natalie, the last time you were here I heard things got a little out of control,” the interviewer Beck Bennett asked Portman, referencing one of the US comedy show’s most popular sketches of all time.

The Oscar-winning actress first hosted the TV programme in 2006, presenting a different side to her clean cut persona.

In the sketch, she rapped about “smoking weed” at Harvard and her love for “drink, fight and f*** all night”.

“I was going through a really weird time then,” the Hollywood star said this time around.

“I have matured a lot.”

:: Time’s Up: Natalie Portman back anti-harassment campaign

On Saturday’s show, it was “bad Portman” all over again, rapping about slipping tranquilisers in her wine and using Peruvian hallucinogenic drugs.

Things took a weird turn when the presenter asked the actress if she had seen the new Star Wars movies, suggesting they were better than the prequels she filmed in the early noughties.

Cut to Portman dressed as Queen Amidala, holding a gun to a fan and asking: “Say something about the motherf****** prequels, b****!”.

“Say something f****** nice about Jar Jar Binks!”

The rap ended with a shout out to Time’s Up, the anti-sexual harassment movement for which Portman has been one of the main supporters.

“Do you think those Time’s Up pins have had the impact you were hoping for?” Bennett asked Portman, who then got up and stuck one of the pins on his forehead.

“How’s that for impact? No more questions!”

She also responded to another social media trend, which saw users comparing her to Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.

Portman dressed up as Brown’s character Eleven in the popular TV show in a sketch where she met other children who have similar powers but weirder side effects.

Other scenes included Portman dressing up as Jackie Kennedy in a sketch about First Ladies who claimed they were cheated on, and one where Portman plays a Nickelodeon show presenter who has lost her voice.

Actor and comedian Andy Samberg also made his return as Portman’s back-up singer, randomly dressed as a viking.
