Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field have said they were both threatened with being beheaded during a charity trip to Haiti.
The couple were in the Caribbean working with UNICEF four months after the 2010 earthquake, they recalled, speaking on Field’s podcast Postcards from the Edge.
Williams said: “I got threatened to be beheaded in Haiti. We were going out there to help.
“I was like, ‘should we go to the next street then?’ and looking back, it was scary.”
Field added: “I was with you, I too was being threatened to be beheaded as well.”
The quake left an estimated 250,000 people dead, according to the humanitarian organisation World Vision International, while around 1.5 million lost their homes.
Williams spent two days in the port town of Jacmel, witnessing the chaos in the aftermath of the disaster first-hand.
In his online UNICEF diary about the April 2010 expedition at the time, Williams told of the “massive and devastating” destruction he found.

He said: “It was almost unbelievable, like a movie set. Cars completely crushed – some still poking out from underneath the buildings that have fallen on top of them.”
The former Take That band member described seeing dots on the buildings left standing which had been either marked safe or for demolition: “Such dark symbols for a community to live with, it was like the plague, it seemed like symbols of death and despair everywhere.”
The 46-year-old singer married Field several months later in August 2010. They have four children together.
