Idris Elba appears nude in feline form and covered in brown fur in a new trailer for the big screen version of Cats.

After the release of the first trailer for the film earlier this year, the general consensus seemed to be one of bafflement, with many viewers describing the look of the cats as “creepy” and “terrifying”.
In the latest preview of the movie, based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical, Elba is seen playing the villainous Macavity the Mystery Cat.
The Luther star is heard saying “going to the ball could get dangerous” in the trailer, before delivering a sinister laugh.
He also tells Dame Judi Dench’s cat, Old Deuteronomy, that he has “plenty of soul” as she chooses the cat that deserves a new life.
The clip also offers a further look at the film’s other stars including Taylor Swift, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Hudson and Sir Ian McKellen.
Cats, directed by The King’s Speech filmmaker Tom Hooper, employs CGI animation to graft its stars’ heads on to the bodies of bipedal felines.
After the release of the new trailer, one Twitter user responded: “Still very weird.”
“It’s so terrifying,” another added.
But one person tweeted: “I actually don’t hate the cat animation thing anymore. I’m so excited!”
