Murder investigation as man, 22, dies two years after being shot in head in north London

Written by on 20/09/2019

A murder investigation has been launched after a young man died more than two years after being shot in the head.

Boluwatife Oyewunmi was attacked near a Travelodge hotel in Enfield, north London, in April 2017.

The 22-year-old from Enfield was taken to hospital in a critical condition and survived for more than two years, but died in July.

No one has ever been charged over the shooting and the Metropolitan Police have now released photographs of the victim, including one of him lying in a hospital bed which shows his horrific head injury.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine said: “Two years is a long time and this has clearly been a very difficult period for Boluwatife’s family.

“Loyalties between those behind this shooting may have changed. Do you have information about those responsible?

“The investigation has been open since the incident happened and we continue to appeal to anyone with information to come forward and speak to us.

“The shooting took place near a Travelodge hotel in Enfield. Were you staying there? Did you hear or see anything that could be of use to the investigation?”

Mr Oyewunmi’s cause of death was recorded as cardiac arrest, pneumonia and brain injury caused by a gunshot wound.

Five men arrested in 2017 in connection with the shooting remain under investigation.

Another three men who were arrested have been released and will face no further action.

The Met Police said Mr Oyewunmi’s next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

The attack happened in Lincoln Road, Enfield, at about 9.45pm on 5 April 2017.

Police have urged anyone with information contact them or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
