Man arrested after teenager stabbed to death in Newham, east London

Written by on 12/12/2020

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was stabbed to death in Newham, east London.

Police and the ambulance service found the victim with injuries in Woodman Street, near the Royal Docks and London City Airport, just before 7pm on Friday.

Despite efforts to save the boy – believed to be 15 – he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lawrence Adu, the boy’s neighbour and a friend of his uncle, said he had known him all his life.

“I just got home, I’m so shocked,” he said. “He’s a nice young man, very handsome and always laughing.”

Metropolitan Police said next of kin had been informed.

Separately, a 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital in west London after being found with a stab wound and injuries consistent with a corrosive substance.

He was found in Whitton Road in Hounslow, not far from the Twickenham rugby ground, at about 6.15pm and is believed to have life-threatening injuries.

Elsewhere in London, 31 knives were confiscated on Thursday when two boys aged 15 and 16 were arrested at a property in Islington, north London.

They remain in custody.

Sergeant Pete Luciano of the Violent Crime Taskforce said: “The seizure of these 31 weapons will have undoubtedly prevented them from being used in acts of violence and potentially even saved lives.

“Our officers are patrolling areas known for violence and this case proves the value of intelligence led stop and search.

“Reducing serious violence is the Met’s top priority and I hope the community feel reassured we were able to remove these weapons from the streets.”
