Leeds United fans raise money to pay for repairs to cars damaged during promotion celebrations

Leeds United fans are raising money online after supporters celebrating the club’s Premier League promotion damaged parked cars.
Social media video showed some people jumping on cars near the club’s Elland Road stadium as their return to football’s top flight was confirmed.
Hundreds of fans headed to the ground on Friday night after rivals West Brom lost, securing The Whites’ place back in the Premier League after 16 years away.
A BMW, apparently owned by an employee of Leeds United Foundation, had its windscreen smashed and was badly dented.
Fan Gareth Cundall kicked off a GoFundMe page to raise £20,000.
“I’m sure we’ve all seen and enjoyed the celebrations at Elland Road last night,” he said.
“Unfortunately some went too far and this car and a few others (POSSIBLY LUFC employees) were damaged by idiots.
“Let’s show we’re top fans and raise money towards repairing or replacing them.”
Mr Cundall said he believed the damaged BMW belonged to a Leeds employee “doing the charity and community work for the club”.
More than 200 people had chipped in and raised £2,200 by Saturday afternoon.
One donor, Nisse Tillung, wrote alongside their contribution: “Because I love Leeds, and I’m sorry that the celebration of promotion to premier league cause problems for other supporters. MOT!”
Lee Gibson added: “Embarrassed by these fans so I hope we can make it up to you by replacing it . Mot – back to the big time.”
Leeds were also confirmed as winners of the Championship on Saturday after promotion chasers Brentford lost to Stoke.
