‘I saw him go under the car’: Essex hit-and-run survivor describes moment of fatal crash

A teenager who was hurt in the Essex hit-and-run attack has described the moment he saw the car fatally hit a 12-year-old boy.
Alfie Barnes, 15, told Sky News he witnessed victim Harley Watson “going under the car” and his body “laying there” after the collision.
A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following what police described as a “deliberate” crash into a group of pupils outside Debden Park High School in Loughton, Essex.
Alfie said he had known Harley at school and he was a “good kid” who he often saw “having a laugh” with friends.
The 15-year-old told Sky News he “blacked out” after the collision and might have been hit in the head by the car.
“When I come to consciousness, I see my friend, he’s gone over the car,” he said.
Alfie was left with soft tissue damage, concussion and whiplash.
He described witnessing the incident as “traumatic”.
His mother, Donna Mills, said she was “in shock” but “thankful that [Alfie is] still here”.
She said the incident had happened in a “nice area” and the community had “never had any trouble” before.
Harley Watson’s family say they have been left “devastated” by his death.
In a statement they said: “Harley was a good, kind, helpful and lovely boy.
“We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and concern.
“However as a family we would like people to respect our privacy and allow us to grieve in peace.”
