Game Of Thrones jokes about Daenerys coffee cup error

Warning! This article contains very mild spoilers for Game Of Thrones season eight, episode four, The Last Of The Starks.

While the survivors of Winterfell celebrated with a boozy night of drinking games after defeating the Night King, it seems Daenerys Targaryen had sensibly decided to keep her head clear.
In the latest episode of Game Of Thrones, eagle-eyed viewers were quick to spot a rogue modern-day disposable coffee cup on a table in front of the Mother of Dragons, played by Emilia Clarke.
To be fair to her, the Great War might have been over but there was still the Last War against Cersei Lannister in King’s Landing to prepare for. You don’t want to try that on a hangover, even if you have got dragons on your side.
But as everyone else drank from horns and goblets, the offending item stood out like a sore thumb.
Game Of Thrones makers have now poked fun at themselves over the issue, tweeting: “News from Winterfell. The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”
The general consensus from fans was that the cup appeared to be from Starbucks.
“Winterfell really got the first Starbucks in history. Crazy,” said one Twitter user.

“You’re telling me they had TWO YEARS to put together a decent show and they couldn’t even spot the goddamn Starbucks cup in Winterfell??!?” said another.
And of course, there were lots of internet memes doing the rounds.
Game of Thrones art director Hauke Richter told US entertainment site Variety in an email the issue had been “blown out of proportion” and that it is not uncommon for items to end up misplaced and end up in the final cuts of TV shows.
Starbucks, which ended up trending on Twitter, is enjoying its newfound status, tweeting: “TBH we’re surprised she didn’t order a Dragon Drink.”
(The coffee chain actually does sell a Dragon Drink, which is nothing to do with Game Of Thrones, but a “tropical-inspired pick-me-up… of sweet mango and dragonfruit flavours, with creamy coconut milk and ice and a scoop of real diced dragon fruit”).
However, producers reportedly told Buzzfeed the cup was not from Starbucks.
Of all the shocks in the latest episode of Game Of Thrones – and there were certainly some biggies, this was the one that got everyone talking.
