Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s unification clash with Daniel Jacobs is expected to deliver an epic middleweight encounter in Las Vegas, live on Sky Sports.
The Mexican star, a three-weight world champion, has been pitted against the razor-sharp skills of the American, with the WBC, WBA ‘super’ and IBF belts on the line at the T-Mobile Arena in the early hours of Sunday morning.
‘Canelo’ returns to the glamorous 160lbs division after his clinical stoppage of Rocky Fielding in December, adding the WBA ‘regular’ super-middleweight strap to his silverware list, although he is now targeting a momentous win over Jacobs.
After twice withstanding the destructive fists of Gennady Golovkin, earning a draw and a majority decision win, Alvarez can be crowned as the world’s ruling middleweight with a victory over IBF champion Jacobs.
Arriving in the Nevada desert as an underdog, adversity will not concern Jacobs, who has overcome cancer to continue his boxing career, and firmly believes he deserved the decision after also extending Golovkin 12 rounds in a points loss.
New York’s two-time champion is also battling for supremacy in a stellar weight class with the world of boxing waiting to see whether Jacobs or Canelo will achieve title glory this weekend.
