Brook vs Rabchenko: Kell Brook aided by high-level recruits to Ingle gym

Written by on 26/02/2018

Kell Brook has hailed the “healthy competition” inside his gym as a key reason for his rejuvenation.

Billy Joe Saunders and Jason Quigley have recently joined the Ingle gym in Sheffield, providing Brook with motivation ahead of his comeback on Saturday, live on Sky Sports, against Sergey Rabchenko.

“Before they were here, I was the main man in the gym,” Brook told Sky Sports News. “Now they have come along, the bar has been raised. It’s healthy competition.

“I’ve got the hunger. I’m a born winner. I want to compete and I want to be the best. I need to go out and win another world title.”

Saunders, the WBO middleweight champion, added: “It’s a big conveyor belt and everyone is pushing it along. We’ve all got big fights coming up. We’re all working hard and getting the job done. We all desire and want the same time – the best for each other. It’s a really good squad.”

Brook has suffered two broken eye sockets after tasting the first defeats of his career against Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr, the second of which cost him the IBF welterweight title.

A 10-month hiatus and a return at super-welterweight, where his notoriously difficult weight cut will be eased by 7lbs, has given Brook his motivation back.

“I hit rock bottom and I knew that I needed boxing. I knew that’s where I’m at my happiness,” he said.

“Since I’ve come back, I’m so happy training. I’m happy about the future.”

Watch Brook vs Rabchenko from Sheffield, live on Saturday, March 3, on Sky Sports Main Event & Action, from 7.30pm.
