Brighton hospital put into lockdown: Staff member stabbed at Royal Sussex County Hospital

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a male member of staff was stabbed in a hospital.
The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton was “quickly secured” following the attack, Sussex Police said.
The “apparently isolated and unexplained incident” is not being treated as a terror attack, the force added.
Police said there was “nothing to suggest that any other person has been involved or that anyone else is at risk”.
Earlier, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust said members of the public were “not being allowed into the hospital whilst a search of the premises is carried out”.
Police later said the “precautionary search of the hospital is now concluding”. The hospital is now running normally again.
Officers have been working with security staff to make sure that staff and patients are safe.
After being called at 8.42am, police arrested the 30-year-old suspect in nearby Wilson Avenue just under an hour later.
He is currently in custody “for interview and further enquiries”.
The victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. The 56-year-old’s family has been informed.
He is in a “safe and stable state, and is being cared for in the hospital”, the trust said.
