Am I in tier 4? Find out the rules in your area by typing in your postcode

Millions more people will be living under England’s toughest coronavirus restrictions from Boxing Day.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has added large swathes of the East, South East and South West into Tier 4, essentially replicating the rules of November’s full lockdown, to battle the growing number of coronavirus cases.

England’s three-tier system had been in place since 2 December, and Tier 4 came into force on Sunday in London and much of the South East.

More than half the UK’s population, or 34.3m people, will live in Tier 4 regions starting from 26 December.

A further 37%, or 24.7m people in the UK, will live in Tier 3 areas, and 11%, or 7.4m, people in Tier 2.

Only the Isles of Scilly, with a population of just over 2,200 people, will be in Tier 1.

The situation in other UK nations varies.

Wales’s own “alert level four” measures – which are also a full lockdown in all but name – were due on 28 December, but have also been brought forward to Sunday, 20 December.

Scotland will enter its Level 4 rules from Boxing Day, when Northern Ireland will begin a six-week lockdown.

Methodology: In order to compare restrictions in all the UK nations, Sky News has grouped areas based on the common core factors currently in place.

The tier systems in England and Scotland are different. Wales and Northern Ireland have not announced a tier system and they are currently applying restrictions nationally, unless they specify extra restrictions in some local areas.

The map and postcode checker currently group Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly together. Please refer to copy for any differences between them in terms of restrictions.
