Jeremy Corbyn: ‘Legal fund’ launched for former Labour leader as he faces prospect of being sued

A “legal fund” for Jeremy Corbyn has raised more than £150,000 in a matter of days, as the former Labour leader faces the prospect of being sued.
The GoFundMe page was set up on Wednesday.
It was established in the wake of Labour‘s decision to pay “substantial damages” to former party employees who took part in a documentary on antisemitism claims under Mr Corbyn‘s leadership.
Panorama presenter John Ware, who made the programme, is said to be taking legal action after Mr Corbyn claimed that the payout “risks giving credibility to misleading and inaccurate allegations”.
The GoFundMe campaign has attracted support via social media, with backers using the hashtag #IStandWithJeremyCorbyn.
“The relentless attacks on Mr Corbyn, a man of integrity, honesty and humility cannot be allowed to continue and we have an opportunity here to offer him support in a practical way,” the page says.
“It will also let him know that his supporters have not forgotten him, nor have they gone away.”
It is not clear how the funds raised by the page will be used.
Sky News has contacted the organiser of the campaign for comment.

Mr Corbyn has not commented directly on the fundraising effort, but he tweeted on Thursday: “Thank you friends and comrades for your solidarity. Our campaigning for a better world continues.”
Sir Keir Starmer, who succeeded Mr Corbyn in April, has said he wants to “draw a line under antisemitism in the Labour Party”.
“Settling this case was important in that respect,” he said.
“It was the right decision, the right thing to do.”
