Storm Dennis: The weather warnings in place in your area

Storm Dennis continues to threaten large parts of the UK as it moves across the country, triggering hundreds of alerts and warnings for rain and wind.

A record number of flood warnings are in place across England, alongside other alerts and warnings from the Met Office and other multi-national agencies.

In South Wales, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, a major incident has been declared as the rivers dramatically burst their banks leaving homes, businesses and roads submerged in flood waters. Here are the warnings and alerts across the UK:

England

As of 4.45pm, the Environment Agency has issued four severe flood warnings, all in Worcestershire along the banks of the River Teme. The areas affected are Earidston, Little Hereford, Ashford Carbonel, Ludlow, Tenbury Wells and Burford.

Severe flood warnings warn people of a danger to life.

There are also 616 other warnings and alerts in place in England that appear to cover the entire country.

Yorkshire, the Midlands, the North East and the South West appear to be bearing the brunt of Storm Dennis and those areas have been told to take immediate action to keep themselves safe in the face of potential imminent flooding.

There has been a major incident declared in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, as they experience rising flood waters.

The Met Office has put amber rain warnings in place in Devon and Somerset, the South East and in Yorkshire, as Storm Dennis continues to lash the UK.

Save for the east of England, a yellow wind warning covers the country, warning people to take care.

Wales

A major incident has been declared as a result of the extensive flooding in Wales.

As of 4.45pm, Natural Resources Wales have two severe flood warnings in place in Pontypridd on the banks of the River Taff and Aberdulais close to the River Neath.

Water levels are falling in both those areas, but the risk remains high to people there.

Gwent Police has also advised residents in Skenfrith to evacuate, over flooding fears.

A further 54 warnings are in place, mostly concentrated in the area around Cardiff, but with several in the south west and the east of Wales.

The River Severn appears to be causing the most trouble, as well as the Usk, Taff and Towy.

There are also 51 less severe alerts in place, particularly on the western coast of Wales, which warn of high tides and surges.

An amber rain weather warning remains in place for the south and central part of Wales, issued by the Met Office.

Scotland

There are 20 flood warnings in place in Scotland as of 4.45pm, none of which are deemed to be severe, according to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.

Areas most at risk include the Scottish Borders, Tayside and Aberdeenshire.

A further 16 flood alerts are in place, covering most areas of Scotland.

Earlier, there had been a severe warning in place for the Scottish Borders, but that was lifted on Sunday morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the whole of Scotland, warning of high winds lasting in to Monday and potentially beyond.

Forecasters believe that Storm Dennis could continue moving northward in to Scotland, so a reprieve in the weather conditions may not yet arrive.

Northern Ireland

A number of flood hazards are in place across Northern Ireland, which is yet to see Storm Dennis make landfall.

Areas around Belfast and Derry appear to be most at risk of flooding from nearby rivers and surface water.

Armagh and Ballymena are also at risk, according to data provided by Northern Ireland’s Department of Infrastructure.

The Met Office’s yellow wind warning covers the whole of Northern Ireland, but that could be upgraded with the imminent arrival of Storm Dennis later on Sunday.
