Scrubs actor Sam Lloyd has been diagnosed with cancer, weeks after the birth of his first child.

The 55-year-old received the diagnosis in January after complaining of headaches and losing weight.

Lloyd played sweaty hospital lawyer Ted Buckland in the hospital sitcom, who spent his time unsuccessfully trying to win the approval of his boss Dr Bob Kelso.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by the executive producer of Scrubs, Tim Hobert, to raise the money for his medical care.

The sitcom’s creator, Bill Lawrence, shared the post on Twitter and encouraged fans to get involved.

According to the fundraising page, Lloyd had initially put some of his symptoms down to the lack of sleep and stress of being a new parent.

He decided to see a doctor when his headaches worsened, and a CT scan revealed he had a brain tumour.

The actor later found the cancer in his brain had spread from his lungs and was also in his liver, spine and jaw.

Hobert wrote that his friend had “so much to be grateful for”, following the birth of his baby boy and his musical’s acceptance onto a “prestigious” theatre accelerator programme.

The producer also shared a story which highlighted Lloyd’s unchanged sense of humour since being diagnosed.

“Just hours after… Sam was cheering on his beloved New England Patriots in his hospital room,” he said.

“When the nurse asked him to ‘cheer quieter’, Sam politely nodded.

“When the nurse left the room, Sam turned to Vanessa and his friends and said, ‘What are they gonna do? Kill me?'”

The GoFundMe page has currently raised over $71,000 (£54,800) of its $100,000 target.
