Everton lead race to sign James Maddison from Norwich City

Written by on 01/06/2018

Everton are leading a group of Premier League clubs keen to sign Norwich’s player of the year James Maddison, Sky Sports News understands.

Marco Silva, confirmed as Everton’s new manager on Thursday, is a known admirer of the midfielder, currently recovering from a knee ligament injury suffered at Sheffield Wednesday on the last day of the season.

A host of top Premier League teams continue to monitor the England U21’s progress including Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City and Southampton.

Norwich are thought to want between £20-25m for Maddison, with the club’s Premier League relegation parachute payments now coming to an end.

Sky Sports News understands the 21-year-old, who scored 15 goals last season, is recovering ahead of schedule from the injury and is due to begin running again in July.

Maddison signed for the Canaries in February 2016 but made his debut over a year later after loan spells at Coventry City and Aberdeen.

He earned his first call-up for the England U21 side in November last year and was included in the PFA’s Championship Team of the Year this season.
