Okolie vs Chamberlain: Lawrence Okolie shunned face-off with Isaac Chamberlain at weigh-in

Written by on 02/02/2018

Lawrence Okolie shunned the opportunity to share a final face-off with Isaac Chamberlain after they both successfully weighed in for their grudge fight.

The cruiserweight duo were reunited by the scales before they settle their heated rivalry this Saturday night at The O2, live on Sky Sports, but Okolie preferred to look at the crowd instead of his opponent as they posed for photographs.

Chamberlain was comfortably under the 14st 4lbs limit at 14st 1lbs 8oz, while Okolie came in slightly heavier at 14st 3lbs 5oz, and the two fighters put their unbeaten records on the line this weekend.

Both men are promoted by Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn and tossed a coin to decide the ring walk, with Okolie electing to enter the ring second.

Okolie played down the significance of his behaviour in the build-up and dismissed Chamberlain’s claims about his ‘glass chin.’

“It means nothing,” he told Sky Sports. “His personality, my personality, the only thing that matters is how we adapt and treat the fight.

“As we can all see, I’ve got the height and reach on him. He needs to get in close. As for a glass jaw, we’ll find out. As for how hard does Isaac hit, we’ll find out, as for can Isaac take my punches, we will find out.

“We are going to find out that Isaac cannot take my boxing ability and my punches. Both of those two things together are going to make for a horrible, horrible night for him.”

But Chamberlain insists he will inflict a first setback on Okolie, whose career is handled by Anthony Joshua’s management company.

“All of that doesn’t really matter,” said Chamberlain. “From tomorrow onwards once I beat him, everything will change.

“I’ve prepared so hard for this, I’ve trained so hard. I’ve trained very smart as well and we’re only coming away with a win tomorrow.”

Watch Lawrence Okolie vs Isaac Chamberlain, from The O2, London, Saturday, February 3, live on Sky Sports Main Event & Action.
