COVID-19: Cwmbran salon customers with dye still in hair flee police during lockdown bust

People were caught on CCTV fleeing from a beauty salon fire exit with dye still in their hair as police raided it for breaching lockdown restrictions.
Following reports that Euphoria Tanning Hair and Beauty in Cwmbran was open and operating despite the Welsh government’s regulations, police visited the salon on January 16.
But as they knocked on the front door asking to be let in, CCTV showed eight people running out of the fire exit, some of whom still appeared to have what looked like hair dye and towels on their heads and shoulders.

Gwent Police said it had found evidence inside of people having beauty treatments and that tanning beds had been used, and the salon owner had been fined £1,000 for breaching COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.
Three customers were also fined and the force said it was trying to identify the other people present.
Councillor Mandy Owen, from Torfaen County Borough Council, said this was the second time the business had received a fixed penalty notice for breaching restrictions.
Torfaen Inspector Aled George said: “This was a blatant breach of COVID-19 regulations. Businesses who flout the regulations are behaving irresponsibly and putting the lives of their customers, staff and the wider community at risk.”
“We understand this is a really difficult time for our communities, the majority of businesses and residents, are doing the right thing by adhering to Welsh government regulations and we would like to thank them for their support.
“Coronavirus levels remain high across much of Gwent, and by following Welsh Government regulations we’re all saving lives and protecting the NHS.”
